Fascinating Reading

As a San Francisco-based company, the Terrapass team has more than the usual variety of ties to Stanford University. Through one such connection, we were made aware of an interesting project and resource, cleverly entitled Sound Advice for a Green Earth, or SAGE.

For this project, Stanford students taking the upper division/graduate course “Sustaining Action: Research, Analysis and Writing for the Public” are required to research and respond to environmental questions posed by members of the public.

The questions nearly always pique my curiosity, and the student responses are impressive both for their clarity and their depth. Recent questions touch on such diverse topics as the environmental/financial trade-offs involved with high-speed rail lines, the environmental ills associated with electric vehicle batteries, and ethanol subsidies.

Check it out if you have an inkling, but be warned: you may spend more time there than you intended!
