About This Project
- This project reduces greenhouse gas emissions by capturing and destroying landfill methane, a powerful greenhouse gas, preventing it from leaking into the atmosphere. Carbon credit sales provide the necessary funding for construction and ongoing operation of this project.
- The Maple Hill Landfill is an active municipal landfill owned and operated by Advanced Disposal Services Maple Hill Landfill, Inc. (ADS) that began operating in 1976.
- Climate benefits are provided by a landfill gas (LFG) collection and control system that was voluntarily installed in 2002 and currently includes 37 LFG extraction wells with associated collection piping and a blower/flare station.
- Blowers are used to extract LFG, a potent greenhouse gas, and send it to an open flare for destruction.
- Landfill gas was never collected and destroyed prior to the project start date, which is now possible through the installation of the collection and control system.

Sustainability Development Goals
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals, are a set of 17 interconnected goals established by the United Nations in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all by 2030. The SDGs build upon the earlier Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) but are broader in scope, encompassing a wide range of economic, social, and environmental issues. They provide a comprehensive framework for addressing global challenges and achieving a more sustainable and equitable world. This project has the following sustainability development goals that are displayed.
